You may not immediately recognize the name Zach McGowan, the actor has been in the entertainment industry for over a decade. The handsome actor has made several appearances in numerous television series and films, but his breakthrough role came on the set of the comedy-drama television series Shameless where he portrayed the character – Jody. As a voice actor, he has commentated on numerous commercials, video games and various anime projects in the past.

Zachary Brendan McGowan was born on the 5th of May 1980 in New York City. The American actor is of mixed race origins, his mother Brenda McGowan is of Russian-Jewish descent and his father Vincent McGowan is originally from Ireland. His mother worked as an employee for United States Airlines, which kept the McGowan family on the move. Zach grew up with his two older brothers, Matt and Doug McGowan.
He attended Ethical Culture Fieldston School from his kindergarten years through his senior year. During his high school years, Zach was the captain of his school’s soccer team as well as the ice hockey team. He was also involved in the school’s theater and drama club. He later attended Carlton College for further studies.
Zach McGowan was on the New York City stage in 2003, starring in several Broadway productions. He later moved to Los Angeles to pursue a career in television and cinema.
Zach McGowan became part of the cast of the Showtime dramedy, Shameless in mid-2011. He portrayed Jody Silverman, a tattoo artist and recovering sex addict. His character was upgraded from a recurring character to a regular 3rd season of the show.
In 2013, he played the role of Shkelgim, a mysterious Romani, in the film Dracula Untold , a Universal Pictures feature film. In 2104, he joined the cast of Black Sails, an adventure series produced by Starz, in which he played a fictionalized version of Charles Vane – a well-known pirate in the 18th century . Although the role was intended for an actor of English descent, Zach improvised an English accent during his audition, which helped him land the role. His performance greatly impressed the casting directors when it was later revealed that Zach was actually faking the English accent.
He then joined the cast of the CW science fiction television series, The 100 where he played King Roan of the Ice Nation. Zach also played the villain “The Superior” on the ABC Agents of SHIELD television series. Zach is currently part of the television series, LA’s Finest which is based on the Bad Boys film franchise.
By all accounts, the actor has mostly appeared in TV shows with a limited but growing presence in movies. He recently appeared in Death Race: Beyond Anarchy and Scorpion King: Book of Souls where he played the title role.
