Who is Victor Garber from Titanic?

Victor Joseph Garber was born in London, Ontario, Canada on March 16, 1949. His father, Joeseph “Joe” Garber, died in 1995, while his mother, Hope Garber, died in 2005. Interestingly, that her mother was a singer and actress known on the show, At Home with Hope Garber. He is not his parents’ only child as he has two siblings; a brother named Nathan Garber and a sister named Alisa Garber. By his parents, he is of Russian Jewish descent.

Garber became fascinated with the performing arts at an early age due to the influence of his mother. After starting playing at the age of nine, the young boy was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes in 1962, when he was just twelve years old. Despite this, he was still able to join the Grand Theatre’s children’s program, while attending Ryerson Elementary School.

When he was sixteen, he applied to be part of a theater-based training program. Fortunately, he was accepted and trained by Robert Gill at the University of Toronto for a period of three weeks.

Victor Garber started his entertainment career as a singer. He began working as a folk singer in 1967 before teaming up with Peter Mann to form the band The Sugar Shoppe with two other members. Lee Harris and Laurie Hood. Throughout the band’s run, success was only modest, as the band’s top song, “Canada”, managed to break into the Canadian top 40 charts.

Having somewhat given up on his musical career, Victor Garber got his starring role in 1973 in the movie, Bon Dieu, where he played the role of Jesus. In 1997, he was given the role of a shipbuilder named Thomas Andrews in the hit movie, Titanic.

In 2001 and 2002, he starred in the films, Blonde’s Revenge, and Eternal Tuck respectively. He then got the chance to star in his first animated superhero film, Green Lantern: First Flight , where he voiced the character Sinestro. His next job was in one of the most popular sci-fi franchises of all time, Star Trek, where he played the role of a Klingon interrogator. Unfortunately for him, his role in the film was among the deleted scenes.

In 2007, Garber was featured in a highly successful stage production titled Encores! alongside Donna Murphy. The following year, he won the John Willis Award from Lifetime Achievement Theater World.
