Remember that introverted kid struggling with anger and inward-looking issues who threw red rays of scorching justice back at him in 2016? X-Men? Yes, he was called Cyclops for the movie. Turns out he’s not nearly as bad in real life; Tye Sheridan has only been around since 2011 and wasn’t even sure if he wanted to get into acting. However, a few years later, the young man from Texas has built up quite a comprehensive portfolio.
Sheridan has worked alongside veteran directors and producers like Steven Spielberg and Terrence Malick and has also shared the set with Matthew McConaughey, Jennifer Aniston, John Travolta, Nicolas Cage, Brad Pitt and many other famous names. With its excellent character portrayals and numerous nominations and awards, Sheridan has set itself up very well to be a true force in the film industry for decades to come.
Who is Tye Sheridan?
Tye Kayle Sheridan was born in Elkhart, Texas on November 11, 1996. Her parents, Bryan Sheridan and Stephanie Sheridan earned a decent living; one worked as an employee of the UPS shipping company and the other as the owner of a beauty salon. Bryan and Stephanie also gave Tye a younger sister, Madison Sheridan. It is unclear when he completed his education, however, he enrolled and continued his pre-college education at the Elkhart Independent School District.
It appears that then-actor Greenhorn was let down amidst fame. His first casting was the character of Steve in the movie Tree of Life with greats like Jessica Chastain and Brad Pitt. The film won a Palme d’Or award and was also nominated for an academy. Sheridan’s excellence in film was noticed by many in the industry, and IndieWire named him in its 2011 edition of the “Top 25 Filmmakers and Actors”.
Her next project was a starring role in the 2012 drama Mud alongside McConaughey and Reese Witherspoon. He followed that up by playing Gary in Joe alongside Nicolas Cage in 2013. In 2014, he went on to star as Will Cutter, the son of John Travolta’s character Ray Cutter. The same year, he appeared in his first television role as Justin, appearing on 3 episodes of Last Man Standing.
2015 was the busiest year of his career to date. Tye Sheridan has been cast in 5 film projects. He was Eddie the Opener in Entertainment, the son Last Days in the Wilderness, and Prisoner 819/Peter Mitchell in The Stanford Prison Experiment. He then followed them with supporting roles in Scouts Guide to the Zombie Apocalypse and Dark Places.
His most recognized role to date came when he joined Marvel’s X-Men heroes in 2016’s X-Men: Apocalypse He was the red-eyed Scott Summers/Cyclops for the film. The following year, he was on set with Jennifer Aniston and a host of others for The Yellow Birds where he played Daniel Murphy. His final project for 2017 saw him portray the character of Conrad Stevens in All Summers End
Another busy year for the actor, Tye Sheridan kicked off 2018 as lead character Wade Watts/Parzival in Spielberg’s. Ready Player One. He followed that as Ritchie in Friday’s Kid, and Andy in The Mountain. He also provided the voice of the Turtle in Crow: Legend and made a cameo as Cyclops in Deadpool 2. He’s also set to reprise his role as Cyclops for the movie Dark Phoenix and as Bart Bromley in The Night Clerk.
Is he gay?
As the world increasingly accepts homosexuality and alternative sexual orientations, a plethora of films have been released with the aim of raising awareness and educating the world on this sensitive topic. Actors and actresses – many of whom are straight – have also been celebrated by the LGBT community for their support and even portrayal of gay characters in popular films.
Tye Sheridan has yet to play a gay role, however, he would only fit the profile of an attractive young gay man based on his appearance and physical attributes. Sheridan has been considered a “twink” – alongside Zac Efron, Lucas Hedges and more – in many quarters for this very reason, however, by all indications, it looks like the actor is as straight as he gets.
