The Hollywood actor was born in Chicago, Illinois on November 30, 1952 as Mandel Bruce Patinkin. His father, Lester Patinkin, was in charge of two large metal works in Chicago and his mother, Doris, was a homemaker.

He grew up in an upper-class familyare Jewish emigrants from Poland and Russia. Mandy was raised as a conservative Judaist; He attended religious school until the age of fourteen and also sang in the synagogue choirs.
