Gibson was born in Watts, Los Angeles, California on December 30, 1978 to Priscilla Murray and Tyrone Gibson. Tyrese and his three older siblings grew up in Watts. They were raised alone by their mother after their father left and never returned.
Tyrese’s career began in 1994 after he auditioned for a Coca-Cola commercial at the suggestion of his high school teacher. He finally succeeded in the movie “Always Coca-Cola”. This announcement put him in the spotlight and landed him other jobs with Tommy Hilfiger and Guess.
In 1998, he signed with RCA Records where he released his debut single “Nobody Else”, which peaked at number 36 on the Billboard Hot 100. The actor was married to Norma Mitchell from 2007 until 2009, they together have a daughter named Shayla, born in 2007. Norma and Gibson fought over custody of their daughter because Tyrese wanted Shayla to live with him in Atlanta rather than with his mother in Los Angeles. Although they currently share custody of their daughter, Gibson claims he pays $13,000 a month in child support.
Tyrese remarried in February 2017 and he and his wife Samantha Lee welcomed a daughter on October 1, 2018.
