If you’ve been watching Inglourious Basterds I’m sure the name Gerold Hirschberg (played by Samm Levine) still rings, right? Hirschberg was the Jewish-American soldier who was part of the Basterds and was seen in the garrison yard with the other Basterds when Aldo Raine spoke to them.
This amazing character was portrayed by one of Hollywood’s most talented actors, Samm Levine. Before landing a role on Inglourious Basterds, he had become famous and popular on NBC’s short-lived television series Freak and Geeks.
He has also appeared on the internet talk show – Kevin Pollak’s Chat Show and Josh on an episode of ABC Modern Family called “Hit and Run”.
The multi-talent was born on the 12th day of March 1982 in Chicago to Harris and Lynne Levine as Samuel Franklin Levine. Samm grew up in Fort Lee, New Jersey. His father was a mortgage broker and his mother a dentist.

In 2009 he starred in Inglourious Basterds alongside Brad Pitt, Eli Roth, Diane Kruger etc. The film was written and directed by Oscar winner Quentin Tarantino.
Speaking of how he got the role as PFC Gerold Hirschberg in Inglourious Basterds , Samm, who’s a big fan of Tarantino, said before Tarantino started casting for the film, he was supposed to hold some sort of general meeting with actors. He (Samm) called to inquire about the criteria for meeting, and Tarantino said, “You have to be Jewish.” So I called my people and said, look, there has never been a more perfect solution – bring me to this room. “And the rest is history, Samm Levine landed a role in this movie and did extremely well.
He added that working on the same set with the same people as Quentin and Pitt was a dream come true for him as he’s been a huge fan of Pitt since he was 12 and having to recite Quentin’s words and work with him on a scene, a Experience he will never experience will forget.
