It was on July 23, 1967 that Philip SeymourHoffman was born in New York City, New York, USA to his mother, Marilyn O’Connor, an elementary school teacher. However, she would become a solicitor and family judge. His father, Gordon Stowell Hoffman, was a Xerox Corporation worker.
The actor, of German descent, was raised alongside a brother and two sisters — Gordy, Jill, and Emily — and while he was Catholic, he wasn’t exactly religious in his youth. By the time he was 9, his parents had already divorced and it was left to his mother to raise the children primarily.
The first thing he ever wanted growing up was to be an athlete. He loved baseball and wrestling, but everything changed for him the moment he saw Arthur Miller’s All My Sons . He loved the theater more than anything and always attended with his mother, who also loved the theatre.
