The Canadian actor is the son of aSinger-songwriter mother and artist father. Born in Italy and Jewish, he grew up on September 21, 1978 in Brampton, Ontario. With the support of his parents, he auditioned for his high school’s drama program and then took part in a production of West Side Story, where he played Tony.
Paulo Constanzo attended Mayfield Secondary School for the Arts before transferring to Balmoral Senior Public School in Brampton. He then studied theater for a year at Ryerson University, where he also got roles in television and film in Toronto. As such, he dropped out to pursue an acting career.
He was cast in his first television role in the made-for-television movie, The Don’s Analyst as Young Vito in 1997. Shortly thereafter, he landed his first major role in another made-for-television film, Saviors: Tales of Courage: Two Couples Where He Has One portrayed a Jewish teenager hiding from the Nazis in 1939 opposite Linda Hamilton, Scott Speedman and Alfred Molina. He then went on to have supporting roles in the series Seasons of Love and Psi Factor: Chronicles of the Paranormal in 1999 before being cast in his first film role in 2000. Constanzo starred as Rubin Carver in the comedy Outing He took on more film roles, mostly playing supporting roles in works such as Josie and the Pussycats , Gypsy 83 both in 2001, 40 Days and 40 Nights (2002), and starred alongside Woody Harrelson in Seared (2003) and The Fear Problem (2003) in a leading role.
He made a comeback to the small screen in 2004 as child genius Michael Tribbiani on the NBC sitcom Joey until 2006 opposite Matt LeBlanc. Paulo Costanzo landed the role of Gary in the 2013 comedy film How to Be a Man and the next year he starred as Shane Wyeth in an episode of the police procedural crime drama series, Criminal Minds He returned as Shed Garvey in the sci-fi series The Expanse in 2015 before landing the pivotal role of Ray Halle in HBO’s Emmy-winning drama The Night Of (2016). The following year, Costanzo landed a spot opposite Marisa Tomei and Minnie Driver in the short Laboratory Conditions before taking on the role of one of the main characters, Lyor Boone, in the ABC political drama Designated Survivor opposite Kiefer Sutherland.
