Michael Mantenuto – biography, wife, life and death

Michael Mantenuto was an American soldier, actor, and former college hockey player best known for his role as Jack O’Callahan in the 2004 Disney film Miracle. He was also a corporal in the United States Army.

Michael in very bizarre circumstances, committed suicide on April 24, 2017. His death came as a shock to many as the young American was in the prime of his career. Learn more about his background, career, and death in the following sections.

Michael Mantenuto Biography

Michael Mantenuto was born on May 13, 1983 in Holliston, Massachusetts, USA to Ed Mantenuto (father) who worked as a Hall Monitor and Kerry Lee Mantenuto (mother) at Algonquin Regional High School in Northborough. He was raised alongside 3 of his siblings; Katie Mantenuto, Meggan Mantenuto Hope and Lauren Mantenuto in Holliston. He was an American by nationality, although his ethnicity is not yet known.

Growing up, Michael’s sudden interest in skating and playing hockey was sparked by his father, Ed, who would always guide him and teach him the basics and fundamentals of the game.

Regarding his educational status and background, Michael began his journey by enrolling at Holliston High School which was in his locale. After graduating from Holliston, he went on and got admitted to the University of Maine. There he joined the school’s ice hockey team. Likewise, Michael played for the Walpole Junior Stars of the Eastern Junior Hockey League for 3 years. He played at the University of Maine in 2000 before joining the Walpole Junior Stars. In 2001, Michael transferred to the University of Massachusetts, where he also played hockey for the school team.

In 2004, Michael made his first-ever appearance in a film titled “Miracle,” portraying the character of Jack O’Callahan. The film is based on true events and the story of Herb Brooks, a US ice hockey player-turned-coach who led the US Olympic team to victory in 1980 against a very strong Russian team that was unbeatable. He was similarly featured in his third and final film in 2008 titled Surfer, Dude. He previously starred in a 2006 film “Dirtybags” which was well received and welcomed by film lovers.

According to records, Michael joined the United States Army in 2010, where he served as a communications sergeant for the Special Forces (“Green Beret”). During his stint in the Army, in addition to serving in Operation Inherent Resolve (the US military intervention against the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIL) in slang terms, he served with HHC (Headquarters and Headquarters Company), 1st Special Forces Group Daesh ). For exemplary military service, Michael Mantenuto received the Army Commendation Medal, 3 Army Achievement Medals, 3 Good Conduct Medals and the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal.


Katie Vienneau is the name of the wife of thedeceased American actor, former hockey player and corporal Michael Mantenuto. Details of how long they were together and when they got married are not known. Similarly, no information is known about Katie’s marital status and background either. The marriage was blessed with a son and a daughter. They are Leo Mantenuto and Ava Mantenuto.

Michael Mantenuto lived and had an amazing life. He was surrounded by many people who loved and cared for him. his wife Katie, his children Leo and Ava, his parents, his siblings, friends and fans alike. Interestingly, as a young boy, Michael’s father was his best friend and close ally. So it’s not surprising that Michael, although initially not a skate and hockey fanatic, took good care of his father and taught him how to play the game. He immediately fell in love with the game. He started playing from high school through college.

In fact, it was because of his love of the game that was a motivation that inspired him to audition for the 2004 film Miracle. It was notably a fight incident where he got the role of Jack O’Callahan from the film director after he apologized. Mantenuto acted in 3 films in his short film career, including the films mentioned above. Wonder (2004), Dirtybags (2006) and Surfer, Age (2008). As mentioned earlier, he later joined the United States Army.

Unfortunately, and unfortunately the American public as well, woke up to the shocking news of his death on April 24, 2017. According to reports from the relevant authorities, Michael committed suicide by shooting himself in the head. Since an investigation was launched to uncover the circumstances of his death, nothing has been said about why Michael ended his own life.
