Born October 10, 1961 in Islington, London, England to Frank and Eileen Kemp, Martin attended Rotherfield Junior School. At age 8, his keen interest in theater led him to Anna Scher’s Children’s Drama Theater, where he appeared for the first time in various television shows with his brother Gary.

Growing up in North London, Martin attended Lady Alice Owen Secondary School, Islington. He had a remarkable time at Dame Alice, his influence having him in a big picture and placed on the school’s Wall of Fame.

When Martin left school, he got into imprinting, while his brother stayed with Gentry’s band group. Steve Dagger, the manager of his brother Gary’s band, presented him with the opportunity to replace the band’s bassist. Being a smart kid who loved music, learning bass was not difficult for him. After three months, he mastered it and played with the Gentry band for the first time at a college party. Shortly after joining the group, the group was renamed Spandau Ballet and Kemp decided to quit his printing job to become a full-time member of the group. He joined the group at the age of 17.

Spandau Ballet’s success story continued with four of their star albums ranking in the UK’s top ten. But following serious disagreements over royalties, the band broke up in the early 90s.

After the split, Martin Kemp started playing with his brother again. He also featured in other TV series like Waxwork 11: Lost in Tone (1992), and Kissing the Vampire (1994) .

In 1995, Kemp underwent surgery to remove two benign tumors that gave him controlled epilepsy. Subsequently, a protective metal plate was planted under his scalp. After the operation, Martin took a break and returned to the UK. In 1998, he resumed his acting and continued his fight against popularity.

After Martin’s surgery, Holiman took a break from work to care for her husband. When he got better, she returned to work, running a music and entertainment company, Aegean.
