The actor was born Luke Farrell Kirby on June 29,1978 in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada to American parents. Both of his parents first lived in the United States in New York City before deciding to move to the Great White North in 1974, four years before the actor was born.

Ever since he was a little kid, Kirby had always had a flair for acting, so he went to a theater conservatory, the National Theater School of Canada, where he studied drama. His first acting role was when he was in second grade in a production of  Peter Pan  in which he took on the role of a lost boy. Since then he has been involved in many theater productions.

As an actor, Luke Kirby progressed fairly quickly to the point that when he was almost graduating from theater school, he was recommended by a principal at the school for a role available in the film  Lost and Insane. He auditioned and played the role of Jake Hollander in the 2001 film directed by Léa Pool. That was his first film role.

Since 2001, when he starred in Lost and Delirious, Luke Kirby has appeared in almost 20 other films, including  Mambo Italiano  (2003),  Broken Glass  (2003) and  The Greatest Game Ever Played  (2004). He was also in  All Hats  and  The Stone Angel  in 2007,  Labor Pains  (2009),  Take That Waltz  (2011),  Rage  (2012),  Realm of Filth  (2013),  Mania Days  (2015),  A Dog’s Purpose  (2017) and  A Different Kind of Wedding  (2017). His most recent films are  Little Forest  (2018) and Glass  (2019).

Besides the films, he has also given good coverage of himself on television, where he has had some small and other significant roles. He debuted in the 2001 mini-series  Oasis  and appeared in the TV movie  Halloween: Risen  From 2003 to 2005 he was in  Nooses and Arrows  and then in 2004 he was in yet another mini-series –  Sex  Traffic. He also appeared in  Tell Me You Love Me  (2007),  Cra$h & Burn  (2009 to 2010),  Fix  (2013 to 2016),  The Astronaut Wives Club  (2015),  The Wonderful Mrs. Maisel  (2017 to 2018) and  The Two  (2018).
