The racing champion was born on October 17, 1979 in Espoo; a suburb of the Finnish capital, Helsinki, Finland. He has an older brother called Rami Räikkönen. His parents; Matti and Paula were respectively road builder and office worker. To supplement the family income, his father Matti sometimes had to work as a night taxi driver and club bouncer. They didn’t have many but were content with what they had on their farm in Espoo which provided an ideal open countryside environment for Kimi and his brother to play to their heart’s content.

When Kimi Räikkönen was just three years old, he rode motorcycles with his older brother on miniature motocross bikes mounted on training wheels. It was from this that he began to develop his racing skills. At the age of 10 Kimi was already racing karts and at 15 he started competing in kart races outside (of Monaco) Finland.

Being good at what he does, he won his first Norway karten in 1998, at the age of 19. This feat did not have the effect of Sauber, the Swiss Formula 1 team offered him a contract after passing a test it had given him in September 2000 on the Mugello circuit6. Kimi Räikkönen proved he was faster behind the wheel than all the other drivers by scoring a championship point at the Australian Grand Prix, his first game. He maintained an impressive performance despite being a rookie. Sauber finished fourth in the 2001 championship with Kimi Räikkönen as lead driver.

Raikkonen won his first Grand Prix in Malaysia in 2003 and finished second to Michael Schumacher in points for the year. He finished second again in 2005 when he was with McLaren as he won the Australian Grand Prix in 2007 and finished the season with a victory for Ferrari. Kimi left Formula 1 towards the end of the 2009 season and returned to rallying after a series of signings with McLaren and Mercedes GP, including refusing to sign with Toyota F1 which had failed to offer him a good salary.

On April 3, 2010, at the Jordan Rally, he scored his first World Rally Championship (WRC) point, later the same year, on September 18, he won his first rally race at the 2010 Rallye Vosgien in France in winning all six stages of the asphalt rally.

The talented driver formed his own 2011 rally team called ICE 1 Racing and competed in the 2011 World Rally Championship. Kimi finished eighth in the first round of Rally Sweden and seventh in Rally Portugal.

2012 marked his return to Formula One and he returned in style topping the 2012 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix with the Lotus F1 team. He finished the season in third place.

Kimi Räikkönen is a married man. He has been married twice and has two children with his current wife. His first wife was former Miss Scandinavia 2001 and Finnish model Jenni Dahlman. The two men met in 2002 and were married on July 31, 2004. Their marriage ended after their divorce in 2014, after being separated in 2013. They had no children together and the reason for their divorce has not been disclosed.

The Finnish pilot later fell in love with fitness and underwear model Minna-Mari Virtanen and on January 28, 2015 she bore him a son, Robin Räikkönen, their first child. The couple and the parents of one of them officially married on August 7, 2016 in a ceremony in Siena, Italy. Virtanen had her second child, a baby girl, on May 16, 2017. They continued to live happily and there were no rumors about their marriage.
