Kate Fagan’s passion for sports is strong. We all know her as a sports reporter working for ESPN. What many don’t know is that she was her high school’s leading scorer in basketball.
Fagan played basketball for the women’s team at the University of Colorado from 1999 to 2004. Additionally, she played non-contact sports in Ireland before deciding to pursue her other passion – writing.
Since joining ESPN in January 2012, she has worked as a columnist and writer for espnW. Many of his stories have appeared on ESPN.com and other ESPN Inc. media platforms.
That same year, Fagan generated a lot of buzz after telling his story in a column published by ESPN. Two years later, Kate published a book telling the same story. She titled the book – “The Reappearing Law: Going Gay on a College Basketball Team Run by Born-again Christians.”
According to Kate, she had to tell her story because “…there weren’t really enough examples for young kids who might be athletes or who want to work in the sports world and who also identify as gay, lesbian (or) transgender”.

Kate Fagan was born on November 15, 1981 in Warwick, Rhode Island.
She attended Niskayuna High School in Schenectady, New York. It was there that she became the all-time leading scorer in basketball.
The ESPN reporter also attended the University of Colorado Boulder where she again played basketball. Records indicate she suffered a setback when she injured her foot while in first grade. Despite this, she became one of the women’s team’s top scorers. She is said to have made a Big 12 conference record by making 44 consecutive free throws during the 2002-03 season and was a longtime performer for the Big 12 academy first team.
Kate Fagan graduated from the University of Colorado in 2004, where she received a Bachelor of Science in Communication.
She also played professional basketball for Colorado Chill.
Kate’s father, Chris Fagan was also a basketball player. He played professional basketball in Europe, gave it up and opened a financial investment company. His mother, Kathy Fagan, reportedly worked as a sales representative for McGraw-Hill.

Before joining ESPN, Kate Fagan took care of the Philadelphia 76ers for “Philadelphia Inquirer”. Previously, it is known that she worked as a sports reporter for “The Glen Falls Post-Star”. and as sports editor of “The Ellensburg Daily Record.”
In ESPN, Kate Fagan was praised for writing a handful of constructive texts that spread media platforms, generated social buzz and sparked meaningful discourse.

Not so Peter Minter is married to another Kate Fagan – an Australian poet, musician and scholar.

Let’s get the facts straight. Kate Fagan Partner was Sue Hovey, former vice president and editor of ESPN. Hovey worked for ESPN for 14 years but is now a freelance writer and editor.
Sometime in 2014, Fagan spoke about Sue during an interview. He was asked:
“You and your partner both work in sports journalism… (is there professional jealousy or conflict or a nice, very stereotypical, lesbian-like collaboration.”
Responding, she says:
“Sue started out as a writer, but has spent most of her career as an editor, so we work really well together on that front. She helped me shape and edit my memoir – we’re like a tag team. Just having a safe space where someone you trust can be honest with you about your words. It is priceless.
Shortly after, it emerged that the ESPN reporter was dating Kathryn Budig. Budig is a yoga teacher and Kate and Kathryn fell in love in 2016.
