He was born Bryant Jacob Coker on August 4, 1992. He attended St. Paul’s Episcopal School in Alabama, where he played for the basketball and football teams. After high school, he continued his education at Florida State University, where he was heavily involved with the school football team.

A freshman at Florida State University, Coker was redshirted for the entire 2010 season, the following year he became a backup for EJ Manuel, appearing in three games and completing three of five passes for 45 yards and a touchdown.
