Fernando Alonso – Biography
Fernando Alonso is the son of Ana Díaz, a worker in a department store, and José Luis Alonso, an amateur karting racer and mechanic in an explosives factory in Oviedo. He was born on July 29, 1981 in Oviedo, Asturias, northern Spain.
The professional racing driver holds a Spanish nationality and is of white ethnicity. He has an older sister called Lorena Alonso Diaz. She is three years older than Fernando and is a doctor by profession. He attended the Elementary School of the Holy Guardian Angel in Oviedo, where he later continued his studies at the Leopoldo Alas Clarín Institute in San Lazaro. However, he left school to focus on his career in motorsport.
Alonso has his father to thank for his flourishing racing career. According to some reports, his father, as an avid go-kart racer, had wanted to pass on his passion for karting to his children. This led him to build a kart for his daughter, Lorena, who was eight years old at the time. But Lorena did not show interest in this sport. Luckily for him, Fernando got interested in karting at the age of 3 and that’s how his love for racing began.
Having mastered the various disciplines of karting competition at an early age, Fernando won his first Spanish junior karting championship aged 12 and retained it for the next three years.
Alonso was introduced to motor racing by AdrianCampos in October 1998. He then signed up to compete in Nissan’s Euro Open Movistar Spanish series in 1999 after a brilliant performance. He went on to win the championship by a single point and then entered the Formula 3000 series in 2000 for ‘Astromega’, becoming the youngest driver to compete in the competition. He would win the last race in Belgium to take fourth position in the championship.
His career with Minardi began in 2001 at the Australian Grand Prix, where he made history as the third youngest driver to start a Formula One race. testing for Renault in 2002. On August 24, 2003, Alonso won the Hungarian Grand Prix in a Formula 1 race, becoming the youngest driver to achieve this feat, although the record was broken. in 2008 by Sebastian Vettel.
He also won the San Marino Grand Prix in 2005, the same year he won his first Formula 1 driver’s championship, ending Michael Schumacher’s five-year dominance.
Alonso became the youngest holder of the double championship title in 2006, after winning her second ‘Formula 1 Drivers’ Championship’ after taking on the challenge from Michael Schumacher.
His time with Ferrari began in 2010 and ended in 2014, which led to him returning to McLaren in 2015. He currently races for the McLaren-Renault F1 team.
