Doug was introduced to American football as a freshman at St. Mary’s High School located in Stockton, California. He was a total novice and had to learn everything from the game. Nevertheless, he quickly showed that he would succeed in this sport if he chose to make it his profession.

His junior year saw him muster 18 touchdowns as he rushed 228 times for 1,950 yards. This earned him numerous accolades, just as his senior year record of 14 touchdowns with 1,234 rushing yards earned him the Most Valuable Player award.
