Doug as a rookie started in all 16 games for the Buccaneers and was ultimately instrumental in achieving the team record 7-9. franchise and went down in NFL history as the first player to make three rushes for more than 45 yards in a game. It was in Oakland, California and on January 13, 1989, Doug Martin was born. While details of his childhood and family life have been overshadowed by the celebrity status he has earned from being an NFL star, we can barely talk about his parents, Doug (father) and Leslie Baranco Martin (mother). He has a sister named Gabrielle and it was widely assumed that they were raised outside of Oakland, in Stockton.
Doug was introduced to American football as a freshman at St. Mary’s High School located in Stockton, California. He was a total novice and had to learn everything from the game. Nevertheless, he quickly showed that he would succeed in this sport if he chose to make it his profession.
His junior year saw him muster 18 touchdowns as he rushed 228 times for 1,950 yards. This earned him numerous accolades, just as his senior year record of 14 touchdowns with 1,234 rushing yards earned him the Most Valuable Player award.
Injury, why was he suspended?
Like most athletes, Martin has had his career stalled by injuries. For example, in the 2013 season and in October, he injured his shoulder in a game against the Atlanta Falcons. He quit one game after suffering a hamstring injury in 2016 and another in 2017 – they were all minors as he bounced back quickly.
But then people were concerned when it was reported in May 2017 that the star was involved in a car accident. Fortunately, it later emerged that the car accident left him only slightly injured.
Around December 28, 2016, it circulated Doug Martin was suspended for four games for violating the NFL’s drug policy. The Buccaneers later confirmed the suspension in a statement. The running back was said to have tested positive for Adderall.
Although Doug initially wanted to appeal the suspension, he announced that he would be joining a treatment facility and asked for help that would help him solve his personal problem. Unfortunately, that affected the $35 over five-year, $75 million contract extension he signed with the team earlier that year in March. He was eventually released by the team in February 2018, but that marked the start of his one-year deal with the Raiders.
