David Jason is an English film and television actor. He is best known for his role as Del Boy Trotter on the television series Only Fools and Horses. Jason has appeared in numerous films and television series over a career spanning decades.

He has received multiple awards throughout his career including Best Actor for his role in Porterhouse Blue, Best TV Comedy Actor for his role in A Bit of a Do and the British Comedy Award Lifetime Achievement Award. He was knighted by Queen Elizabeth II in 2005. He is married to Gill Hinchcliffe and they have one daughter, Sophie Mae.


David Jason was born on February 2, 1940 in LondonEdmonton, Middlesex, England to Arthur White and mother Olwen Jones, who is Welsh. The name David Jason is a stage name, he was born David John White. Jason’s twin brother died in childbirth. He was born and raised during World War II. He has described those years as spending his time dodging bombs and dodging bullies. At this time his father, Arthur White, was working as a porter at the Billingsgate Fish Market and his mother was a cleaning lady.

Jason grew up in North Finchley, where he attended Northfield Secondary Modern School. By the time he finished school, he had intentions of going straight into acting. However, his father advised against pursuing an acting career immediately after school and encouraged young Jason to learn a trade first. This prompted him to start an apprenticeship as an electrician. He stayed in the field for six years before giving it up to pursue his acting career.

David Jason began his career in television series, appearing in 1964’s Crossroads, playing the role of Bert Bradshaw. He appeared and performed on various television and radio shows between the 1960s and 1970s. These include playing Captain Fantastic in the comedy series, Don’t Adjust Your Device alongside Michael Palin starring Denise Coffey, Eric Idle and Terry Jones in Hugh and I , Abel playing Randall and Hopkirk Deceased , The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy and weekly satire week ends.

Jason rose to prominence as an actor in the 1980s when he starred as Del Boy Trotter on the BBC sitcom Only Fools and Horses. His character, Del Boy, is a young man from Peckham, south London, who makes a living from stolen and counterfeit items.

In the 1990s and 2000s, he starred as Detective Jack Frost in A Touch of Frost , Captain Frank Beck in All the King’s Men, Porterhouse Blue, May’s Favorite Buds among others. Jason stars Still open all hours as of 2018.
