Dan Gronkowski is a member of Gronk Nation which is a popular name used to describe his sports family. Like his family members, he had a penchant for sports and was signed by the Detriot Lions in the 2009 NFL Draft, but he no longer plays football.
This former American football player was born on January 21, 1985 in Amherst, New York with the birth name Daniel Thomas Gronkowski. He was a student at Williamsville North High School and during his years there he joined the football, baseball, basketball and ice hockey teams. For two years he played at starting quarterback and for one year he played as a starting wide receiver in the field. In 2001, his sophomore year, he set a school record as the first player to record 539 receiving yards. He also set records in his senior year completing 122 of 207 passes for 1,407 yards with 16 touchdowns and it earned him the League Offensive Most Valuable Player award.
During his college years at the University of Maryland, he had the opportunity to play his first games in 2005 and was involved in 5 games in which he had 2 receptions from 37 yards and an outstanding 25-yard touchdown reception. The following year, he was selected to play the full season games, including 13 with 9 starts and 2 receptions for 11 yards which earned him the George Boutselis Memorial Award. The talented player was featured in 11 games in 2007, including 8 starts. It was also recorded that year that he caught 7 passes from a 66-yard range and would have earned the team’s Lefty McIntosh Award, a public service award for that year. The last year at the University of Gronkowski was also successful. In 13 games, he played 12, scoring 29 assists, with a reach of 287 yards and 3 touchdowns. He also earned All-ACC Player honors with honorable mention in 2008.
After college he launched his professional football career and was signed by the Detroit Lions on June 25, 2009 on a contract that was supposed to last 3 years, but the following year he was traded to the Denver Broncos on September 4 for his cornerman, Alphonso Smith. The player then signed with the New England Patriots on September 6, 2011, but his stay here was very short. In November of the same year, he moved to Cleveland Browns who signed him because one of their players, Alex Smith, was injured and was placed on reserve. He played for the Browns until August 2012 after which his contract was terminated then in January 2013 they re-signed him but in August of that year he was released and it was the player’s last team until this day.
