Barret Oliver will forever be remembered for his starring roles in films such as The Neverending Story as well as Cocoon film series. Oliver was born and raised in California. He was interested in the performing arts from a young age, as did his older brother Kyle, who performed in various roles in the early ’80s. Oliver made his film debut at the age of nine on the set of Jekyll and Hyde… Together Again (1982). His performance here led to several other supporting roles. He established himself as a talented performer with his first films, which later translated into his big break in 1984 on the set of The Neverending Story– a film adaptation of the novel by Michael Ende, which drew him to media attention as well as criticism.
His subsequent success led to him playing the role of the robot Daryl in DARYL – A 1985 film which earned him further recognition alongside a Saturn Award. Unfortunately, Barret Oliver disappeared from the acting scene after his stint in Cocoon Films for a number of years. He is currently focused on his career in photography, which he teaches in workshops and classes in LA, but his fans feel he has forfeited what could prove to be a very successful acting career.
Barret Oliver – biography, age
Although he was known to the public as BarretOliver, his full name is Barret Spenser Oliver. The former child actor was born on August 24, 1973 in Los Angeles, California and is the second son of Kent and Kathy Oliver. His older brother Kyle Oliver, who was born three years before him, became a source of inspiration for the aspiring actor when he saw Kyle act in films. He quickly developed an interest in acting and, as a result, began attending auditions for film and television roles. Growing up in Los Angeles, known as the film capital of the United States, helped him develop confidence in front of the camera.
Although his father worked in interior design, he was well connected in the film world, helping both Barret and his big brother Kyle get auditions through family and friends. While he was busy auditioning, young Barret Oliver didn’t neglect his education at LA’s Los Feliz School. When he first started acting in auditions, his mother, Kathy, was his manager.
His debut on-camera experience was on the set of Jelly, alongside Bill Cosby, although it was not a speaking role. He proved to the casting directors that he had the confidence to act in front of the camera. Oliver has held several other roles throughout his career, but took a bow in 1989 after his final role in Scenes from Class Warfare in Beverly Hills
